253 Macalester St for rent in Saint Paul, MN
We are a house community for graduate students and young professionals who are involved (either professionally or non-professionally) in the arts and humanities. We offer a very upscale and serene environment. We seek an individual who is friendly, responsible, and passionate about the arts (architecture, cuisine, dance, gardening, interior design, literature, music, storytelling, theatre, visual arts) or the humanities (community organizing, education, environmental protection, history, medicine, religion, philosophy, psychology, sociology, urban design). Want more details? Our Craftsman home offers three levels with 2400 square feet of living space. The house features a roomy three-season porch, a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, and a dining room with a concert-grade digital piano. Our kitchen includes top-quality cookware, plenty of counter space, three refrigerators, a chest freezer, a dishwasher, and appliances (ice-maker, air-fryer, crockpots, blenders, food processor, waffle maker, microwave, toaster oven . . . ). The lower level features a library with a projector and screen, a guest room, a tool room, and a laundry room. Our garage offers safe winter storage for bicycles, and it includes kayaking equipment for resident use. We also have two full bathrooms (one with a soaker tub) and a brick patio with new deck area. Plans are to install a hot tub this fall. Our house is also located in an ideal location. We are in a beautiful, safe, and friendly neighborhood near St. Catherine University and the University of St. Thomas, right next to Macalester College on the St. Clair Avenue side. We are right off the 70 Bus stop, one block from the A-Line / Bus 84, and three blocks from the 63 and 74S Bus stop. We are also an easy walk to wonderful parks, coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants. All residents cover a weekly maintenance task (70 min/week), so our home stays clean. In addition, residents can earn up to $200/month off rent at $15-25/hour by cooking or gardening, helping with extra maintenance, working on home improvement projects, or hosting community arts events. Lastly, if you come without a car, your rent is reduced by $30/month. We are seeking a resident who wants to stay long-term (at least a year), but we use a month-lease to ensure flexibility. We have one room available on May 20 ($530/month). The carpeted, second-floor bedroom (121 square feet) offers two windows with plenty of light. It also includes a quality twin bed, shelves, a dresser, air-conditioner, and a roomy closet. Current residents include a bread-baker, a fiber artist, an English post-doc, and a professional storyteller. Our adorable Ragdoll kitty prefers to reign supreme, so we cannot accept other cats or dogs. However, smaller pets in a cage or aquarium, including rabbits, are enthusiastically welcomed! To qualify, you will have a reliable source of income and strong character references. If you are interested, please tell us about your background and goals and how you might contribute to our house community. We offer a serene and inspiring space, and we invite you to join us!
