Job Summary The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students.
Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
This position provides customer service for the MnDOT - Metro District Information Center and is critical to the daily business operation at the Water's Edge facility.
Position responsibilities include answering the main switchboard (including directing calls promptly and properly, answering a wide-range and variety of questions from the public, and taking complete and accurate telephone messages when appropriate), receiving deliveries from a variety of vendors throughout the day, signing for packages and deliveries as necessary.
Additionally, this position provides informational and security access assistance to employees, visitors, contractors, and individuals doing business with MnDOT at the Water's Edge facility.
Other related duties may be assigned (e.
g.
, assisting with telephone problems, preparing nameplates, processing change form information) depending on agency need and workload.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To qualify, Customer Service Specialist applicants must have the following:
Typing/keyboarding skills, using Microsoft Word or equivalent software, sufficient to produce documents such as emails and other correspondence in an efficient and timely manner.
Word processing skills sufficient to prepare, edit, and finalize emails, memos, reports, and/or other documents and types of written communication that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors.
Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and understand and be understood during interactions with others.
Database Management skills sufficient to enter and retrieve data.
Experience using spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft Excel to enter, compile, store, and retrieve data.
Customer Service skills to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence.
Ability to work in a seated or standing position for extended periods of time; move and/or transport items up to 40 plus pounds; frequently bend, lift, and maneuver items daily.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Knowledge of general office practices.
Excellent phone skills.
Ability to use human relations skills to interact with others (common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem solving, empathy and logical organization of ideas).
Alphabetical and numerical filing practices sufficient to file and retrieve documents/information.
Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time.
Use wrists, hands, and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and hear and talk.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally up to thirty pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
