Job Summary Under the direction of the Zoo Executive Director/ Foundation President and in close alignment with the Zoo Foundation's leader, this position serves to provide executive administrative management work within the executive office of the Minnesota Zoo, as it relates to Zoo and Foundation Board operations.
This position serves as the Zoo Director's primary point of contact with the Zoo Board and Foundation Board.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in administrative support or similar field, or equivalent experience Experience and demonstrated ability in research sufficient to compile, analyze and concisely present information for decision-making Knowledge of public information dissemination techniques and methods to effectively communicate complex issues according to MN Chapter 13, Government Data Practices.
Knowledge of zoo, conservation, and environmental education trends and issues sufficient to create clear informational materials Organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple projects simultaneously, deliver results, carry out assignments in a timely manner, and meet deadlines Written communication skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials such as memos, procedures, reports, presentations, etc.
, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Verbal communication skills sufficient to clearly explain, discuss, communicate and present ideas, proposals, work plans, procedures, etc.
to managers, board members, donors, and staff Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software, including skills in word processing, presentation, graphics, spreadsheet and charting applications sufficient to collect, query and analyze data and prepare charts, reports and presentations Customer services skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand needs and provide accurate information in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful manner with a high degree of professional discretion Ability to trouble-shoot and respond to high-pressure situations that may occur in a public setting Current valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Experience working with state and non-profit sector Boards Experience working with Twin Cities diverse communities and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations Experience working with zoo, conservation and/or environmental education organizations Fluent in a second language, such as Spanish, Hmong, ASL, etc.
Physical Requirements Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends Ability to physically navigate uneven terrains, steps, and slippery surfaces Ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time Ability to monitor and record key information at board and committee meetings, individual meetings, and other public events Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, collate materials, distribute materials, etc.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Ability to commute between the Minnesota Zoo and other locales in which meetings, activities or gatherings may take place.
