DeafBlind Services Minnesota provides interveners to work in a consumer's home and/or community, assisting them to become as independent as possible.
An intervener works one-to-one with one or more children/youth (ages birth to 21) who have a combined vision and hearing loss.
You would facilitate communication and language development, develop fun and educational activities with the support of your supervisor, work collaboratively with parents and other professionals, and prepare progress reports.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for conducting one to one intervention in the home and/or community to provide clear and consistent sensory information to child/youth (consumer) age's birth through 21 with deafblindness Facilitate access to environmental information and the development and/or use of receptive and expressive communication skills Develops and maintains a trusting, interactive relationship that can promote social and emotional well-being for the consumer.
Organize and create consumer activities and routines in the home and/or community, which may include learning through the use of natural routines and activities such as eating, bathing, playing, toileting etc.
Works cooperatively with parents; discusses and models intervention and communication techniques to parents to support integration of the consumer into the family Accompany, support and supervise consumer during community-based instruction Facilitate interaction with other youth and community members.
Creates learning materials as needed Serve on a consumer's education team if requested MINIMUM
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent math and reading skills of a high school graduate Willingness to participate in a six weekend DeafBlind Intervener Training Program Valid driver's license with required insurance coverage.
Ability to drive to and from consumer's home and to transport consumer in the community ASL proficiency may be required to work with some consumers PREFERRED
Qualifications:
Completion of an Intervener Training desired but not required Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing and visually impaired with additional needs in the educational setting, preferred Assignment Location:
Currently, Metro area locations.
Cities will vary depending on the location of the consumer's home.
Mileage is reimbursed when consumer is transported.
